Written Statement

Over these last couple of weeks I have been working with my biology project and found out a great deal of information on World Hunger and its scientific background. Three main countries that suffer tremendously from world Hunger are Somalia, Haiti, and Rwanda. Fortunately there are many organizations such as USAID and Water is Life who are both extending tremendous support with basic resources such as water, rice, and corn. With these resources they give strength to the families in Africa who become very ill from infectious diseases such as mono and HIV. These diseases are easily acquired when a human is physically exposed to the horrific bacteria found within the contagious trash of a city within a country. USAID and Water is Life have similar objectives which is to lower the number of casualties per year. With my local solutions of fund raising at the corner store near my house, posting a poster in the my high schools dining hall to raise awareness within my community, and spending five minutes a day on www.freerice.com answering vocabulary questions I hope to contribute to this objective and feed around 150 families for a week. The reason for why I say a week is because I read in an article that a dollar a week is enough to feed a family which is amazing because in the US a dollar is almost nothing.

My next attempt to help these families from the starvation they struggle through is to begin an organization within my community that is willing to take time to help the community reduce the amount of civilians without a home. When kids are prevented from having food their parents almost forcefully send them to work and prevent them from the opportunity to receive good education. This education if given to them would give them the opportunity to build a life out of the misery that they live in. Due to the fact that kids struggle to get education within their country there are big organizations that really want to support these children and actually bring the education to them in person so that they can learn and hopefully benefit from it.

Africa and Haiti are two countries that are known for their poverty and inability to move decisively because of their economic status. The lack of a strong government prevents the financial support they desperately need and are unable to provide shelter for those families who need it. There are some countries. There have been many attempts to solve the problem, but the number of casualties shows only a small percentage of reduction throughout the years. This objective is one that will slowly be achieved. It will take hard work, dedication, sacrifice, and ambition because it’s not only one family its billions of humans whom are affected by this unbelievable circumstance. The big question is what can you do to make a change within your community? What positive actions will benefit the world as a whole? How many lives can you change?
