Written Statement
Over these last couple of weeks I have been working with my biology project and found out a great deal of information on World Hunger and its scientific background. Three main countries that suffer tremendously from world Hunger are Somalia, Haiti, and Rwanda. Fortunately there are many organizations such as USAID and Water is Life who are both extending tremendous support with basic resources such as water, rice, and corn. With these resources they give strength to the families in Africa who become very ill from infectious diseases such as mono and HIV. These diseases are easily acquired when a human is physically exposed to the horrific bacteria found within the contagious trash of a city within a country. USAID and Water is Life have similar objectives which is to lower the number of casualties per year. With my local solutions of fund raising at the corner store near my house, posting a poster in the my high schools dining hall to raise awareness within my community, and spending five minutes a day on www.freerice.com answering vocabulary questions I hope to contribute to this objective and feed around 150 families for a week. The reason for why I say a week is because I read in an article that a dollar a week is enough to feed a family which is amazing because in the US a dollar is almost nothing.
My next attempt to help these families from the starvation they struggle through is to begin an organization within my community that is willing to take time to help the community reduce the amount of civilians without a home. When kids are prevented from having food their parents almost forcefully send them to work and prevent them from the opportunity to receive good education. This education if given to them would give them the opportunity to build a life out of the misery that they live in. Due to the fact that kids struggle to get education within their country there are big organizations that really want to support these children and actually bring the education to them in person so that they can learn and hopefully benefit from it.
Africa and Haiti are two countries that are known for their poverty and inability to move decisively because of their economic status. The lack of a strong government prevents the financial support they desperately need and are unable to provide shelter for those families who need it. There are some countries. There have been many attempts to solve the problem, but the number of casualties shows only a small percentage of reduction throughout the years. This objective is one that will slowly be achieved. It will take hard work, dedication, sacrifice, and ambition because it’s not only one family its billions of humans whom are affected by this unbelievable circumstance. The big question is what can you do to make a change within your community? What positive actions will benefit the world as a whole? How many lives can you change?

Why are children in Rwanda forced to look for food in the garbage? When children are hungry and starving there only option is to look in the garbage for left over food that may have been thrown out in the garbage. This is when diseases come in to play within the food that is found in the garbage. It is highly contaminated with bacteria and other infectious diseases that slowly build up and cause death. In the last decade Rwanda has averaged out 6000-9000 deaths due to garbage hunting. Unfortunately the lack of education and desperation to get a meal prevents a child from the knowing the consequences he/she may face when this decision is made. Both the mental and physical health are being put at risk. Families who don't have the financial support find no other alternative rather than to send their children to work for minimum wage that can be 75 cents a day or in this case food hunting in the garbage. When a parent does this he/she doesn't realize that not only are they putting their child's health at risk they also prevent them from having an education. This is how the number of casualties and families that suffer from hunger increase every year. Children deserve to eat healthy and not be forced to eat garbage. Luckily the organization Partners in Health have extended their support out to provide children with Food, Water and Housing.
The lack of clean water in Uganda is severe. Every year about 5000-8000 children die from drinking contaminated waters that surround them. The cause of their death is the bacteria and diseases that the water has mixed within it. These viruses cause infection and Mal-nutrition. A non profit organization has began a movement throughout the world and it known as Water is Life. It's mission like many other organizations is to lower the number of casualties from throughout the world. This includes children to adults. Due to the fact that the expected years of life is only 39 Water is Life is determines to slowly rise that number into the 50's. The reason for Uganda's terrible suffrage is because for the last two decades they have been going through a brutal war. Children wake up early in the morning to try and walk for many miles. There objective is trying to find clean water that they can take back home and give to their family. Sometimes they can, but most of the time they can't. Clean water now is one of the main resources that the US is providing to help African nations such as Uganda.
The hunger in Somalia has continued to increase throughout the years. This is mainly caused because there hasn't been a central government in Somalia for the past twenty years. This means that there is no one to provide absolute financial support to those who need it such as these children who can't even receive education. Families become so desperate that they cross the border between Southern Somalia and Northeastern Kenya praying to get aid for there weakened children and for them selves. USAID is one of the biggest providers for the citizens in Somalia who need help. Every year they provide Somalia with food and clean water to help them through their struggle. The US believes we all should live with food and not be exposed to suffrage. By providing financial support a family is given the opportunity to live another day. Although the life expectancy is low support can always be provided and will never be neglected. This is the reason for which the US and many other countries support Rwanda every year one way or the other. How to Feed the World
I found a very good article in Newsweek Magazine by Gordon Brown which was published on May 19, 2008. You may access this article through this link http://www.newsweek.com/id/136360. In this article the opinion of Robert Zoellick, Jeffrey Sachs, Joachim Von Braun, Muhammad Yunus, Josette Sheeran, Jacques Diouf and Michael Pollan are published. These people are all working together to make a difference in countries who find it extremely difficult to develop a stabled government. Their main objective is to fund money and basic resources such as corn, wheat, water and other kinds of material that can strengthen a human. A dollar a day is enough to provide food to one family for food. When food is providing to a civilian you not only prevent them from dying for natural causes you give them the calcium and protein to build a stronger immune system. These people have that basic objective, to prevent the number of casualties per year and decrease the number of families that struggle to survive on a daily schedule. There question to us is, What can you do to help save a family?
West African Villagers Stake Their Fortunes on the Future Price of Rice
I found another great article in The New York Times newspaper by Lidia Polgreen which was published on January 25, 2009. You may access this article through this link http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/26/world/africa/26senegal.html. In this article there is a huge argument about the constant rise of food prices. It explains how economic problems such as these lower the possibility for those who struggle for the chance to buy food at a reasonable price. Products such as rice are basic resources that a human can eat and live off of. When the rise of basic resources such as these happens families are prevented from the opportunity to eat a good dignified meal. One important fact that this article had is, “The price of unprocessed rice in Senegal has steadily fallen from its peak early last year of more than $30 per 110-pound sack.” Without a doubt rice is important to countries who can’t industrialize and become stronger in the economical aspect of world hunger which increases the number of casualties.
The Struggle to End Hunger
In this great article that was available through the Time Magazines which has an unknown Arthur was published on August 12, 1966. You may access this article through this link http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,917.html. Although this article is relatively old the basic problems it summarizes is what we are currently facing in today’s world. Some of the efforts that was made by the US to reduce world hunger was, “One of the greatest peacetime armadas ever assembled—600 ships from 50 donor nations—has borne 1,000,000 tons a month of mostly U.S. grain to drought-tormented India this year.” This quote shows that countries such as the US do try to make a difference in the struggle for survival of an inevitable disaster. Though this is not a natural disaster caused by the world’s nature of reaction it is a problem that is lived day by day and it trying to be stopped through the correct measures. The main way to achieve this is through providing food to those who need it and not waste it.
People Should Not Be Dying Of Hunger In The 21St Century
I found this touching article in Newsweek magazine by Suzanne Rozdeba which was published on June 7, 2002. You may access this article through this link http://www.newsweek.com/id/64124. As I began to read, the first sentence was enough to fully grasp the sympathy within me and want to make a difference in my community. This is the sentence, “On a recent stop at a hospital in Malawi, an African nation hit hardest by famine, Judith Lewis watched mothers carry in young children too weak to stand, having walked 35 miles away or more to get there. The World Food Program's regional director for eastern and southern Africa, Lewis held a 2-year-old girl, stricken with AIDS, who was so malnourished that she fit in the palms of her hands.” That was the main idea of this article the constant struggles families go through in the hunger aspect and health. Do to the fact the hunger and desire for food affects your immune system leaving oneself vulnerable to nasty diseases that cause death such as AIDS. This is the most common disease in Africa. In the article Suzanne argues that children should be taken care of because they are the future of this earth. They should be able to receive education and be provided with shelter and a good amount of nutritional resources such as milk, rice, etc.
Millions Sought for Global Fund to Aid Farms
I found this great article in the New York Times Newspaper by Helene Cooper which was published on April 22, 2010. You may access this article through this link http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/23/world/23aid.html?scp=2&sq=World%20Hunger&st=cse. Now I begin to realize why president Barrack Obama was not the wrong choice. “The Obama administration is proposing to add $408 million to a global fund to boost food production and encourage good farming practices in the developing world, the Treasury Department announced on Thursday.” This was the central focus of this article the providence of the world for a better society. Countries throughout the world such as South Africa, Somalia, and Haiti need these kinds of donations not for the government to benefit, but to help our brothers and sisters feel the unison and compassionate feelings that the world is feeling for them. Helene said that, “If I had one wish, it would be for good governance in all of these countries.” She demonstrates her ambition to wanting to be a significant figure not only for those countries in need, but for other countries who want to help, but don’t find the motive to do so. Helene is an inspiration for this world for a better society. We must unite to make a difference.

Poverty/Hunger is an issue which revolves around multiple amounts of biological tribulations. Despite the fact that the main reason for Hunger/Poverty is economical downfalls within a country, physical and mental problems are found within an individual. This is mainly found in small nations in Africa whom are trying to develop a government without financial support.(1) Another great example is Haiti because as we all know they are the poorest nation in Western Hemisphere which was devastated by two earthquakes back to back. Without having the financial need to support itself world hunger becomes inevitable. Coming back to the scientific aspect of Poverty/Hunger the necessity of food directly affects the physical healthiness of a human. Not only is it unhealthy and cause weakness, but the mental health will also be affected.(2)
When the mental health a human is affected it reduces your ability to be calm. Cranky, anger, desire are some of the main emotions which are going through the affected humans body.(3) This allows him to fall off from thinking in positive ways because stress is overtaking the mind. This means that without parents being able to eat they have no energy in which they can support their families and their children will be prevented from being able to receive an education. The physical damage that will be caused by world hunger is as we know when desperate to eat anything; an open option is the garbage. This is the dumbest decision a human can make because of all the bacteria that is found within a garbage can make someone sick, get a disease of straight up die. Being hungry causes you to get very weak and also skinny. This is when we come in place. If the whole world allied to supply simple resources such as corn, potatoes, tomatoes, etc. it would be enough to save thousands of innocent lives.(4) This is when it becomes a difficult task because not everyone finds the sympathy to support individual nations who can’t even support itself.
All the affects that hunger has on the world are negative for this reason many countries with weakened economies look to ally with countries who may support them in one way or another. Hunger and Poverty are one of the biggest issues this world faces and now that we know the reason what difference can you help make in your community? This then becomes the big topic of this issue is there any way that support can be extended to the needed? If we take a quick glance back at the mental and physical affects that hunger causes it becomes a great question, what can you do to make a difference? Scientists throughout the world calculate the amount of civilians that suffer from hunger and realize that there are millions of families who lose their job or home because of a breakdown in the economy and realize that when this happens Hunger in the world only worsens.(5) So think about it, what you can do to make your community a better one?
